How-to Create a Web 2.0 button/icon

In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a stylish web 2.0 button/icon.

  1. Open a new document, make it 100x100px.
  2. Chose a background color, in this case white.
  3. Select the Rectangular marquee tool, hold down shift and draw out a nice square.
  4. Fill it with any color, and go to Gradient Overlay. Chose two nice colors. We're using #54ec12 and #1ba535.

  5. Go to Stroke, and set the size to 2px and the color to #4fc90c

  6. Go to droppshadow, and put the following settings:

  7. Select a shape, a text or whatever you want on your icon, and put it over the icon-layer.
  8. Hold down CTRL and press the icon-layer.
  9. Once you have done that, select the radial marquee tool and hold down ALT. And cut the
    selection, as the picture below illustrates.

  10. Go to Select > Feather and set it to 5px.
  11. Fill the selection with white, and you are done!
